Last reviewed: June 2026
1. Introduction
Bristol Children's Charity relies on the generosity of donors to carry out its work. This policy sets out how we handle donations and Gift Aid declarations, and your rights as a donor.
2. Making a Donation
We welcome donations by:
Online via our website (secured payment processing)
Bank transfer or standing order
Cheque made payable to Bristol Children's Charity
Cash at events
A receipt can be provided on request.
3. How Donations Are Used
All donations to Bristol Children's Charity are used to further our charitable objectives as set out in our governing document. We are committed to using funds efficiently and transparently. Our annual report and accounts are available via the Charity Commission website.
4. Restricted Donations
Where a donor wishes to restrict their gift to a specific project or fund, we will honour that restriction provided the purpose remains within our charitable objectives. If circumstances change and a restricted gift cannot be applied as intended, we will contact the donor to agree an alternative use.
5. Refund Policy
We understand that donations are sometimes made in error. We will consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. In general:
Requests made within 30 days of donation will normally be honoured
Recurring/direct debit donations can be cancelled at any time; any payments already made will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Refunds will be made using the same payment method where possible
To request a refund, please contact us at: bristolchildrenscharity@gmail.com with your name, donation date, and amount.
6. Gift Aid
6.1 What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows us to reclaim basic rate tax on eligible donations from UK taxpayers, increasing the value of your gift by 25p for every ÂŁ1 donated at no extra cost to you.
6.2 Making a Gift Aid declaration
To make a Gift Aid declaration, you confirm that:
You are a UK taxpayer
You have paid or will pay enough Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year to cover the amount we will reclaim
You want us to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation and any future donations until you notify us otherwise If you pay less Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year, it is your responsibility to pay any difference to HMRC.
6.3 Cancelling a Gift Aid declaration
You can cancel your Gift Aid declaration at any time by contacting us. Cancellation will not affect claims already made.
6.4 Keeping your details up to date
Please notify us if you change your name or address, or if you are no longer a UK taxpayer, so we can update our records accordingly.
7. Fundraising on Our Behalf
If you are fundraising on behalf of Bristol Children's Charity, please contact us first so we can support you and ensure compliance with fundraising regulations. Any funds raised must be passed to us promptly and cannot be used to offset fundraising costs without prior agreement.
8. Our Commitment to Donors
Bristol Children's Charity is committed to the highest standards of fundraising and adheres to the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Fundraising Practice. We will:
Be honest and transparent about how donations are used
Never pressurise anyone to donate
Respect your communication preferences
Handle your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
